Puppy walking

An adventure in looking after a puppy until it is old enough to be properly trained as a guide dog for the blind.

Rockwell is going back to Guide Dogs this week - probably Thursday. I will blog about that later but for now, I have some nice photos.
good dog
He really enjoys the human contact and I was petting him when I realized I had the camera and so snapped this photo from a close angle.
a skritch under the chin
As I scratched him, he moved his head around so all areas might get some attention.
a face cracker yawn
Finally, he gave a mighty yawn of the variety we call "face-cracker".
We shall miss these quiet moments.

Rockwell, please let us be the first (on this blog at least) to wish you good luck as you continue with your training.

Julia and family, congratulations on bringing Rockwell this far, and best wishes with recall day.

I echo Sam's sentiments, Julia. You and Peter have done well in bringing up your boy, and it's been a pleasure to follow his many adventures as you've chronicled the joys, frustrations, laughter and unexpected circumstances that puppy raising brings. May Rockwell go on to do great things in the life of someone who needs him.

Give him a hug and a kiss from me!

Good luck Rockwell!

Julia - I'm sure your preservation of his spirit will help him along in his training and make him very special to the person who needs him.

The day seems to have come too soon. It has been entertaining and uplifting to follow Rockwell's development. Well done, Julia and Peter.
We will miss the regular updates. I will always wonder in the future if I am watching Rockwell at work. Will I recognise him from all the wonderful photos? Will we know which city he ends up in?

Julia and Peter, you've done your best and now it's up to Rockwell and the Trainers to finish the task. We will be thinking about you. Hope you get feedback during formal training and will keep us posted.

Best of luck in College, Rockwell.

Wow, the time certainly passed by quickly! We will miss Rockwell, cause he's just awesome, but we know he'll have fun partying the days away in college ;)

Julia and Peter, congrats on raising a wonderful puppy. We wish you the best of luck on recall day, and also the best of luck to Rockwell in school.

You guys are so sweet. Thank you all for your best wishes. I am doing fine and I am concentrating on the things I won't miss like dog hair on the floor and benefits like being able to go out and stay out for hours. We do miss him already but at the same time, today felt like a holiday. I will blog about this soon!

Thanks Opy, I went and voted for Rockwell!

Thanks Sam I Am. Now that I am without dog, I will have to visit all the other dog blogs more regularly to get my dog fix.

Hi Dawn, I went to your blog and didn't see a place for comments so I will comment here in case you come back. It really IS a bitter sweet story! But I have posted an update (as of January 2007) and hopefully, the story will have a happy ending with Rockwell learning to be a real guide dog. However, even if he doesn't become a guide dog, he might still work at something else. In any case, he will end up in a loving home - the CGDB will make sure of that!
